Danita de Haseth & Jairo Kelly
Wedding date: Saturday, September 13th, 2014
Danita and Jairo never wanted to get married in a formal way. This down-to-earth, alternative couple took their beach wedding to a whole new level. Danita who grew up on the island of Curaçao and Jairo on Aruba first met in an elevator in Holland. After living in the Netherlands the couple decided to move back to their hometown of Curaçao to start a lodge/bed & breakfast, which was also the location of their wedding reception.
The couple had a barefoot beach wedding on the beautiful beach of Kenepa Chiki, which is one of the 38 beaches in Curaçao. It was the perfect location for Danita and Jairo. Here they had an intimate wedding with all their friends and families that came in from Holland, Aruba and the US.
Danita’s wish was a custom made dress which suited her personality. Together with her best friend and designer Marytsa Schoester, they created her unique wedding dress. A beautiful ivory mullet dress, embroidered bodice with beading and crystals, with a feather skirt and open back. As a finishing touch, Marytsa designed custom made head and foot jewelry which fit perfectly for the barefoot wedding. The flower bouquet was handpicked from their own garden. The groom wore turquoise shorts, a white shirt and a turquoise bow tie. They chose to have turquoise as the theme colour, because it represents the sea. All their guests were dressed in semi-formal clothing that matched each other.
Upon saying yes to each other, they were surprised by a singer. It was the perfect ending to their ceremony. They then had their wedding cake and champagne on the beach before leaving to the wedding reception.
What started off as a barefoot beach wedding, ended in a festival style party. The reception took place in the gardens of Mondi Lodge, which is also owned by the couple. It was a very emotional and personal spot for Danita who grew up on these grounds. To personalize the wedding even more they made much of the décor themselves. The couple had a dance floor and a stage around the pool where they danced the night away.
Everything was perfect for Danita and Jairo. From first seeing each other on the beach, to celebrating their wedding in their own garden, it was a day filled with love, which they will never soon forget.
One piece of advice that Danita would like to give to other Caribbean brides is to plan your wedding in the low season to save on travel costs for your guests. Make sure there is enough shade if it’s a beach wedding and hire a local wedding planner who knows all the ins and outs of the island.
Congratulations Danita & Jairo!
