The Background…
Originally from a small town in Arkansas, Genevieve “Genni” Ahrens attended the University of Arkansas before moving to Ireland to pursue a master’s degree and later earned an MFA at George Mason University. Michael Olivo grew up in Falls Church, Virginia and works as a building engineer.
The Meeting…
Michael and Genni met while working at a local bar in Fairfax Virginia. “Michael worked security once a week and I used to tease him that he was only there to meet girls,” Genni says. After a good friend insisted she go on a date with him, Genni agreed and soon the pair became a couple.
The Proposal…
Michael arranged to surprise Genni with a romantic dinner and proposal, but when Genni arrived home from work sick, he quickly changed the proposal location. “Michael made me dinner at home and we had a romantic time by the fire. He proposed later in the evening,” Genni says.
Wedding Destination…
The couple travels to The Bahamas frequently, so after looking and not finding a suitable wedding location in Washington, DC, they considered The Bahamas perfect for their event. “We’ve been in love with the pristine beaches and untouched beauty,” Genni says. Michael and Genni stayed at a private residence in Eleuthera and married on a secluded beach along the Atlantic coast.
And the Bride wore…
After a last minute dress debacle courtesy of a sloppy seamstress, Genni had to purchase a new gown two weeks before the wedding. “The ladies at White Swan Bridal in Vienna were great!” She says. “They sympathized with my problem and fit my dress in two days.” The result: a custom-tailored Anjolique French silk dress in champagne featuring a French bustle and a bodice adorned with Swarovski crystals.
The Groom sported…
Michael appeared dashing in a fitted Calvin Klein suit.
The Feast…
Michael and Genni have wonderful friends. One of whom, a personal chef, prepared prime rib, fresh locally caught grouper, vegetarian lasagna, a fresh local salad and butternut squash with goat cheese for the wedding meal.
The Honeymoon…
Though a honeymoon is in the planning stages, Genni says, “We are thinking about going to Italy to enjoy the shopping in Milan, renting a car and driving south to explore the art history. Along the route we plan on staying at a few wineries and indulge in the rich wine countryside.”
