Real Wedding: Samantha and Richard, Grand Cayman

Real Wedding Grand Cayman Samantha and Richard

Samantha and Richard Fiero knew from the start that they wanted a destination wedding. One of the very first conversations they had as a couple was about the type of wedding they envisioned. At first when Samantha mentioned she wanted a destination wedding, Richard didn’t believe her. It took some convincing for him to believe that she never envisioned a traditional wedding. Some women envision their weddings from a very young age, and she was just never one of those girls. Samantha and Richard are very easy going people, and happiest when they’re laying on a beach, so it just made sense.

The couple met at work in 2012. They started on the same day and were in the same training class. It took a couple of years for them to finally admit they were in love with one another, but in May 2014 they went on their first date and it has been history ever since.

The Fiero’s decided on Grand Cayman because Richard’s family has been visiting the island every year for over 10 years. He grew to love the island and it has become a very special place for him over the years. Samantha knew it would mean a lot to him to get married on his favourite beach. The couple were married at the Grand Cayman Marriott, Seven Mile Beach. A beautiful ceremony on the beach, followed by a great reception with family and friends made for a perfect day.

Samantha wore the Elise Gown from Watter’s Wtoo collection. The fitted bodice accentuated her perfectly, and the lace detailing was simply breathtaking. Alongside Samantha, Richard wore a grey Mens Wearhouse Tuxedo. The couple couldn’t have paired better.

When it came to the feast, Samantha and Richard received a lot of advice during wedding planning, and the one major take away was to serve good food and have plenty to drink. They listened to the advice and went all out, allotting ¼ of their total budget to food and drink. The couple figured since all their guests were traveling to be with them to celebrate, they would take good care of everyone. They offered an open bar all night long and a plentiful amount of appetizers were passed around during cocktail hour. Dinner consisted of a spinach salad, perfectly cooked filet mignon, and wedding cake for dessert. Guests raved about the food and the Marriott did not disappoint.

Two distinct things stood out at the Fiero’s wedding. First, they purchased many of their decorations from Etsy. Grand Cayman is a small island, and they were having a hard time finding exactly what they were looking for from the local rental companies. Samantha and Richard weren’t going to give up on their dream wedding because the island couldn’t offer what they were looking for, so they decided to get creative and search elsewhere. The couple was able to get everything they were looking for from Etsy. Items included; gold flatware (this was a MUST have), their table runner, invitation suite, bridesmaid/welcome bags, bridal party getting ready robes, and cake topper, to name a few.  All these things were easy to pack into a checked luggage bag, and saved them money as well.

Second, Richard and Samantha let the kids at the wedding cut their cake during the reception. In traditional weddings, the bride and groom cut the cake together, and even in some circumstances they shove cake in each others face. There is no judgement here on what others do, but the couple is not traditional at all in that sense and had no desire to cut the cake. They wanted to find a fun way to involve the kids since they decided not to have miniature brides and ring bearers in the ceremony. Needless to say, they had a blast and there were lots of laughs from the wedding guests too!

As a true Caribbean Bride, Samantha has some advice to share with future brides, planning their destination wedding in the Caribbean; “I had multiple people approach me during my wedding week and ask me why I was not stressed out. To be totally honest, I was completely calm and relaxed the entire week. The reason why is because I didn’t let wedding planning or the small details of the day consume me. Yes, some things changed at the last minute, but I just rolled with it. Your wedding day will come and go quickly and the most important thing to remember is that this day is about you and your future spouse. Don’t ruin the day or your memories by sweating the small stuff. With that being said, listen to your heart and do what YOU want (not what your maid of honor, bridesmaids, mom, sister, friends, family want). This is YOUR day and your dream, and if you stick to your instincts you will have the wedding of your dreams. Even if this means giving your wedding planner a little nudge, right Stephanie?!”

We’re very honoured to share Samantha and Richard Fiero’s special day with our readers.
