Gillian and Michael

Wedding_May_09_020_2.JPG

On their first visit to Barbados seven years after meeting, Gillian and Michael Burkill got married on May 7th 2009. Their beautiful wedding was held at the Mango Bay Hotel in St James and was organised by Josea Brown. The hotel was a perfect location for the couple as they chose to get married on a boardwalk overlooking the beach. After staying nearly a month on the island, they both commented on the beautiful of the island and how friendly the locals were. They are already thinking about when they can return!
Gillian wore a Harvey Nichols sea-green chiffon dress and Michael wore Ralph Lauren shirt and trousers. The wedding ceremony was a small intimate ceremony with a perfect ‘chilled’ out atmosphere.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Danielle and Mike Doiron's Wedding

danielle-mike.jpg
Canadian bridal designer Danielle Cormier and Mike Doiron tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Barbados on July 12, 2008. The couple from Brampton Ontario first met in a chance meeting in a bar while out with friends and it was definitely a case of love at first sight.

Mike proposed during a romantic dinner on a surprised trip to Bermuda. "He got down on one knee and told me the five things he loves about me, I always told him throughout our nine years of dating that if or when we were to get married that he better know at least five things he loves about me" Danielle says.

The couple chose the Casaurina Beach Resort in Barbados because of the ease of getting available flights for their guest and also because the resort accommodated children.

On the day the bride wore a Daniella Couture gown made and designed by the bride and the bridesmaids also wear custom made gowns from her line. Danielle's dress was a mermaid gown with spaghetti straps made of silk taffeta.

The groom and groomsmen wore bespoke suits by famed tailor Lou Myles know for his custom suits for celebrities like Muhammed Ali. Mike sported a tan linen suit and white shirt while the guys wore light pink long sleeve shirts and tan pants. The unique thing at the ceremony was after the bride's father walked her half way down the aisle and then her mother walked her and her daughter the rest of the way where her daughter gave her away.

The reception for 60 guests included Caribbean seafood salad, chargrilled angus sirloin steak and tender lobster tail, grilled chicken breast in port wine jus, penne and fusili pasta and the dessert was Florida orange and lemon sorbet. After the wedding the couple spent an extra four days in Barbados and got a chance to explore the many secluded beaches while on a chartered boat cruise.

Congratulations to Danielle and Mike.

Jena and Ramon Miller's Wedding

On December 20th 2008 Jena Hunte and Ramon Miller became husband and wife infront of friends and family at Golden Groove Great House in Barbados. On the day the Jena wore a diamond white gown with embroidery, crystal beading, sequins with pickup skirt by Alfred Angelo while Ramon wore an ivory suit by After Six. Sanojah catered the cocktail reception that included herb stuffed flying fish, fish cakes done on the spot, spinach quiche, cheesecake with two choices of fruit topping, and bread pudding.

The wedding cake was done by Maureen Hollaway and had three tiers; chocolate, red velvet and vanilla. There were also three tiers of cupcakes all different flavours and guests were given traditional bajan black cake to take home as well.

Words of advice from the couple: Bride- Enjoy the planning process and remember that it's YOUR wedding, don't be bullied into things that you don't really want and shop around for good vendors. A good vendor does what they have to do to make it fit into your budget and into what you have always wanted your day to be.

Groom- Have fun! It will be over before you know it, so set aside a big part of your budget to get a good photographer because after the flowers and the food is gone it's what you'll have to relive your memories.

The couple honeymooned at Golden Grove Great House and then the Crane Resort both in Barbados.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Maria & Andrew Cox's Wedding

Maria Del Mar Jones and Andrew Cox first met on a blind date in Nottinghill, London on the 12th of April 2003. It was a great match as they both realised how much they had in common, especially good food and wine.

Andrew proposed on the 14th of February 2006 after taking his lady to see a flamenco show at Saddlers Wells followed by dinner where he proposed three times in one breath. "I said yes straight away and promptly burst into tears. He choose a beautiful emerald cut diamond ring which I adore."

On April 12 2008 the couple celebrated their wedding day along with their 5th anniversary. The couple went for a fun, romantic, contemporary white & green with a fresh beach feel. Hints of coral and sea green, grape leaves with beach shells, and large sea shells filled with white anthuriums as center pieces. They opted for a happy, casual and informal celebration as guests had travelled from all over the world so they tried to keep the day simple with a few formalities and the best food! The dress code was smart, light and casual and many of the bride's girlfriend got into the tropical mood of wearing flowers in their hair which was such a lovely touch.

The bride wore a beautiful simple ivory empire design of four layers of silk tulle with gold and diamante beading designed by Manuelle Moto for Pronovias.  Andrew wore a white suit from Hackett and shoes from Harvey Nichols. They were three flower girls and two ushers all in white and ivory.

The couple were married in St. Albans Church which is right on Tropicana beach. The church was intimate with a fantastic sea view and the sound of the sea gently caressing the shore line. After the service they had group photos on the Jitney Bus which then ferried the guests to the reception for cocktails and canapes where they were met by the stilt walkers and serenaded by sounds of the steel pan. After taking photographs on the beach the couple then arrived at the reception on the Jitney to be welcomed by all.

The evening included one of the most amazing sunsets the couple had ever seen and that set the stage for the rest of the night. A local barbecue, non-stop dancing and champagne capped off what was described as the most beautiful day of their lives.

Michelle & David Wild's Wedding

Congratulations to Michelle and David Wild who got married in Tobago on September 6th 2008. The couple traveled from London, England and the event took place at the fabulous island getaway to the stars, the Villas at Stonehaven.

Michelle wore a gown by Collezione Sposa and David wore Giorgio Armani. The couple describes it as a non-traditional affair as their aim was to make their guests feel as comfortable as possible in this romantic island setting.

The Caribbean BBQ which followed the ceremony included grilled mahi mahi, baby back pork ribs, homemade mango icecream, and rum soaked pineapple in banana leaves.

They were given an amazing surprise when Michelle’s Colombian family performed a traditional Colombian dance where three generations took part, from her youngest cousin (aged 4) to her grandfather.

The newlyweds honeymooned in Curacao and both stated the highlight was swimming with the dolphins at the Dolphin Academy.

Congratulations to our new Caribbean bride!...and David as well.

Dominic & Alicia Hill's Wedding

Newlyweds Dominic and Alicia Hill celebrated their nuptials in Barbados at the opulent beach front setting of Josef’s Restaurant in St. Lawrence Gap.

Dominic, a Barbadian, and Alicia a true Jamaican belle were introduced by a mutual friend at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, and as they say… their future was written.

After completing their Undergradute studies, Alicia returned to her native Jamaica and Dominic stayed in Barbados; the pair however, continued the age old dance between Caribbean nationals for the next four years – inevitably resulting in yet another marriage of Caribbean cultures.

The wedding took place on August 7th 2004 on a typically beautiful afternoon in Barbados. Alicia wore a classic strapless A-line dress and Dominic chose the traditional black tuxedo with a white vest and tie.

The ceremony was intimate and memorable. The coming together of two lives, two families and lots of good friends; and thanks to an intimate but boisterous guest list hailing from across the region, dancing continued well into the night at the garden setting of the popular restaurant in the south of the island.

David and Lesa Conliffe's Wedding

David and Lesa Conliffe travelled from Toronto, Canada and got married on the 31st of July 2004 in their native home of Barbados.

The couple sought a traditional themed Caribbean wedding. They exchanged their vows in the elegant setting of Coverly Plantation House, just before sunset, when the lighting is soft and the breezes are cool and balmy on the south of the island.

Steel Pan music created the perfect Caribbean sound track as the two Canadian residents started their life together as man and wife.

David and Lesa planned the event to coincide with Barbados' Crop Over festival, so travelling guests could capture some of the spectacular carnival events going on all over the island.
